Cleveland-based packaging manufacturer Tap Packaging Solutions is excited to announce they accepted an “Inkspiration” Award of North America from Hewlett-Packard (HP) on April 14, 2016 at the annual Dscoop (Digital Solutions Cooperative) "Architects of Tomorrow" Conference for industry experts and leaders in the graphic arts community.

The Inkspiration Award recognizes outstanding achievement and creativity in print marketing technology using the HP Indigo, PageWide Web Press, Scitex and Latex print technologies. The award was given to Tap for their excellence in premium folding carton design using the HP Indigo 30000, the first digital printing press designed specifically for folding cartons. This was the very first time HP conducted the awards for North America.

Tap’s winning submission for HP’s first ever Inkspiration Awards of NA, “Fleurir Chocolates — Taste the Nation, Bar by Bar”

Tap’s winning submission was “Fleurir Chocolates – Taste the Nation, Bar by Bar,” a set of 8 custom chocolate bar boxes designed for Fleurir, an artisan chocolate shop in Alexandria, Virginia. Six of the bar boxes, which hold Fleurir’s chocolate bars inspired by flavors from different regions of the United States, were designed to look like postcards and feature dreamy scenes that illustrate the source theme of the ingredients.

Fleurir’s “Northeast” Bar

“The Fleurir ‘Taste the Nation’ bars were a great fit for the digital press as each of the 8 designs had a different run quantity, allowing Fleurir owner and chocolatier, Robert Ludlow, to be smart about the amount of inventory he was adding per SKU,” says Jordana Revella, vice president of sales and marketing at Tap Packaging Solutions.

Fleurir’s “South” Bar

“This is what I like to call ‘versioning controls’ with digital printing technology. You can use sales history and market demand to decide on the specific quantities of each version you’re producing. Plus – the bar boxes were beautifully designed by Tap Packaging designer Brittany Vazquez, featuring whimsical regional-themed illustrations and a gold foil stamped Fleurir logo.”

“I can’t rave enough about what an amazing job Brittany did with the regional boxes. I’m really excited, because this award means we were quite successful at what we were trying to portray,” says Ludlow. “I love how you can get a sense and feeling with each bar without even opening it. She was able to convey a message that’s hard to get across with chocolate bars.”
