Cleveland – October 30 – The Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) awarded Tap Packaging + Design the Digital Application of the Year Award for its Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cinnamoji Box Set at the PPC’s 79th annual awards ceremony on October 26 in Austin, TX.
Administered and hosted by the PPC and judged by a jury of packaging professionals, industry experts, and professors, the North American Paperboard Packaging Competition is the premier competition for carton manufacturers involved in the concept, design, print, performance, and shelf appeal of paperboard packaging.
In the past, Tap Packaging has received gold, silver, and excellence awards for its nominated work and in 2016, Tap was honored with the Rigid Box of the Year award, another top accolade of the competition.
“Receiving the Digital Carton of the Year Award really means a lot to us. We’ve made it our goal to be the best digital carton provider – always pushing the envelope, testing new materials, coatings, and the capabilities of our HP Indigo 30000. So, to be honored for something that we set out to do really well is a great accomplishment for the employees at Tap,” said Jordana Revella, vice president and self-proclaimed digital ambassador of Tap Packaging + Design.
The Cinnamoji box set was a collaborative project with General Mills, Inc. that featured the Cinnamoji takeover of five celebrities, each with their own unique flare and carton embellishments: global snowboarding icon Chloe Kim, professional football star Justin Jefferson, actress and recording artist Leslie Grace, singer Manuel Turizo, and the iconic SpongeBob SquarePants.
The textured embossing that mimics spray paint and the realistic detail of Chloe Kim’s goggles are of special note. Anna Brown, Tap’s design and sales service manager, explained that “the customer wanted Chloe Kim’s goggles to look almost real. And that required well-executed printing and a carefully selected clear holographic foil in combination with embossing to achieve the googles 3D effect.”
“On behalf of the Paperboard Packaging Council, I congratulate all of this year’s deserving winners,” said Ben Markens, President of PPC. “To be recognized in our competition is a feat, demonstrating mastery in design, manufacturing, distribution, shelf presence, and much more. It is a true stamp of excellence.”
